When Was Windows 11 22H2 Released
when was windows 11 22h2 released? Windows 11 22H2 was released on September 20, 2022, when Microsoft began the feature update rollout. That is different from the original Windows 11 launch, which happened earlier, on October 5, 2021.
When was Windows 11 22H2 released?
Windows 11 version 22H2 started its public rollout on September 20, 2022. Microsoft treated it as a major feature update for Windows 11, so some devices received it quickly while others saw it later depending on eligibility, update settings, and rollout pace.
If you are looking up when the windows 11 released in general, that date refers to the operating system’s original launch, not the 22H2 update. Windows 11 first became generally available on October 5, 2021.
What does 22H2 mean?
22H2 is Microsoft’s version label for a Windows feature update. In plain terms:
- 22 refers to the year 2022.
- H2 means the second half of the year.
So Windows 11 22H2 means the Windows 11 feature release associated with the second half of 2022. This naming pattern helps distinguish one major update from another, such as 23H2 or 24H2.
How Windows 11 release dates differ from version updates
People often mix up the launch of Windows 11 itself with later feature updates. They are related, but they are not the same event.
| Windows release | Date | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 original release | October 5, 2021 | The first general release of Windows 11 |
| Windows 11 22H2 | September 20, 2022 | A major feature update for Windows 11 |
This distinction matters if you are checking compatibility, version history, or whether a device is fully up to date. A PC could be running Windows 11 without being on 22H2 yet, especially during the early rollout period.
Has Windows 11 24H2 been released?
Yes, Windows 11 24H2 has been released. Microsoft has made it available as a newer feature update than 22H2, though availability can still depend on device eligibility, rollout timing, and update channel.
If your goal is to understand Microsoft’s version history, the important point is that 24H2 is newer than 22H2 and part of the same general naming pattern. If your device has not offered it yet, that does not always mean it is unavailable, only that the rollout may not have reached your system or your hardware may still be pending eligibility checks.
How to check your Windows 11 version
If you want to confirm whether your PC is on 22H2, 23H2, or 24H2, you can check it in Windows settings:
- Open Settings.
- Go to System.
- Select About.
- Look under Windows specifications.
- Check the Version entry.
That version number tells you which feature release is installed. If you are waiting for an update, Windows Update may offer it automatically once your device is eligible.
Why the release date matters
Knowing the release date for Windows 11 22H2 helps in several practical situations:
- Troubleshooting, when a feature or setting differs between versions.
- Compatibility checks, especially for apps, drivers, or enterprise policies.
- Update planning, if you want to know how old a build is before deciding whether to upgrade.
- Support research, since Microsoft support behavior can depend on the version installed.
It also helps avoid confusion between the original Windows 11 launch date and later feature releases, which is one of the most common points of misunderstanding.
